Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the Scientific Committee, we are pleased to welcome you to the
proceedings of the 31st Scientific Conference of Medical Students of Greece & 19th
International Forum of Medical Students and Junior Doctors, that is taking place on
11-13 April 2025, at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall.
The objectives of the conference include education and training, through the
enhancement of specialization in the most common diseases, research and innovation
through the development of new technologies and techniques to improve diagnostic
accuracy and treatment outcomes. They also aim at the cooperation and networking
of institutions and researchers for the exchange of knowledge, the improvement of
patient care and finally raising the public’s awareness regarding health, prevention
strategies and the importance of an early diagnosis.
The Scientific Committee of the Conference, through this specific subject, aims to
inform and educate students and young doctors about the latest scientific data. The
treatment strategy for each patient requires specific selection criteria regarding their
ideal therapeutic approach. All these changes in the environment of the specialists
create a more urgent need to operate in teams than ever. Each physician must focus
on a part of their knowledge and by collaborating with the other members of the
MDT try to formulate an optimal plan for each patient while considering the need
for increasingly individualized treatment. Therefore, the multidisciplinary approach,
especially for malignancies, is considered necessary today and the exchange of
views and discussions between different specialties will supplement and enrich the
knowledge of the participants, aiming to improve the quality and safety in approaching
these patients.
With respect
The President of the Scientific Committee
V. N. Papadopoulos
Professor of Surgery
Director of the First Department of Surgery
Dean of the School of Health Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
Dear young colleagues,
The year 1993, marking the foundation of the "Scientific Association of Greek Medical
Students-SSHMS", can be characterized as a milestone for undergraduate medical
education in Greece.
For more than 30 years, SSHMS, through its seven branches across all Medical
Schools in the country, has successfully mobilized Greek medical students, alongside
their studies, towards collaborations in developing activities in medical education,
volunteerism, and community service.
Students participating in SSHMS activities gain significant scientific, ethical, and social
experiences benefiting themselves and society at large. In a few years, as practicing
physicians, they will carry with them a solid foundation of knowledge, a composed
personality, and adherence to the principles of Hippocratic ethics and medical
deontology.
Key activities organized by SSHMS include the "Scientific Congress of Hellenic Medical
Students" and the "International Forum of Medical Students and Junior Doctors",
scheduled to take place from April 11-13, 2025, in Thessaloniki.
Having accepted the honourable invitation to serve as President of the Scientific
Committee of the "19th International Forum of Medical Students and Junior Doctors,"
we welcome you to Thessaloniki and wish you a pleasant stay. Most importantly, we
hope the proceedings of the congress will be substantial and fruitful.
Theodoros I. Dardavesis
